This stretch of coast is three different fisheries pretending to be one postcard. The Santa Rosa Sound is the calm side: grass, docks, channel edges, redfish and trout if the water isn’t chocolate. The Gulf is surf, a long walk, and weather that belongs on the flagpole. The Navarre Beach fishing pier is a county deck with its own admission, and the license that comes with a fishing ticket stays on that deck.
License: start at FWC, not a friend’s dock story
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission requires a recreational saltwater license to take or attempt to take saltwater fish, with listed exemptions (kids under 16 and others — read FWC, not us). The no-cost resident shoreline-only license is not valid from a vessel. A kayak is a vessel. Buy the real license at GoOutdoorsFlorida. Fees move; we are not reprinting a price table on this overview. Longer write-up: kayak fishing Santa Rosa Sound.

Kayak vs charter
If you own a kayak and a PFD you will wear, the Sound is the less-dumb first trip. Required kit and the launch are in the kayak guide. If you wanted someone else to run the boat, that is a charter — licensed captain, their boat, their cancellation rules. Read their site. We list only businesses whose official website we could verify this run. No hours. No prices.
Charters (name + official site)
Showintail Inshore Charters
Their site describes Navarre Beach / Pensacola inshore trips. Book and rates: them.
Lucky Chucky Charters
Navarre Beach–based inshore/nearshore, per their site.
Navarre Beach Fishing Charters
Inshore / nearshore / offshore language on their own domain.
Smitty’s Surf & Inshore Fishing Charters
Official site exists. Their homepage, when we fetched it, said they were temporarily closed and not accepting trips. That can change. We are not going to invent a reopen date.
FishingBooker cards and Facebook pages are not official operator sites for this list. If we could not verify a real .com, the name is not here.
Gear if you are doing it yourself
Medium spinning combo
Sound trout/redfish size. Not a deep-drop outfit for a pier tourist who wanted a souvenir rod.
Pliers and a PFD
If you are in a kayak, the PFD is the law-shaped item. Pliers are how you stop bleeding on a fish you should have released faster.
